Painting & Interiors
Removal of textured ceilings is one of the most popular segments of updating older homes. In most cases when the ceiling drywall was originally installed, a spray texture was applied to hide the many imperfections that were left behind when the final skim coat was not completed. We not only have to remove the spray texture but also complete the final skim coat in order to repair all of the unsightly imperfections before the ceilings can be painted.
Step 1: Cover all furniture, walls and floors with plastic and drop cloths. This is a very messy process.
Step 2: Moisten texture and scrape from the drywall.
Step 3: Apply drywall mud to repair all imperfections and sand smooth. Some areas may require additional mudding and sanding.
Step 4: Apply 1 coat of primer to ceilings.
Step 5: Paint ceiling.
This is a messy and time consuming process - don't let anyone convince you otherwise. Give careful thought toward the contractor you select for texture removal - not everyone is qualified to do this properly.
